Air Canada in California

My team and I had the pleasure of producing and filming Air Canada’s #FlytheFlag campaign, an awesome initiative highlighting Canadians living abroad and making their dreams a reality.

This time Air Canada flew us away to beautiful California to meet some super talented Canadians, first stopping in San Francisco, then making our way down the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway to Los Angeles. And let me tell you, what an intense and inspiring 2 weeks!

In San Francisco, we met up with Pixar Animator, Brendan Beesley, who through a series of bold moves was able to land his dream job with Pixar, and worked on some successful animated films including The Incredibles 2, Coco, and Finding Dory. And to think of it, he’s only getting started with some major projects planned for the near future.

From San Fran we made our way to Napa Valley where we connected with renowned winemaker and former tech entrepreneur Patrice Breton. Patrice founded wine company Vice Versa in 2003 and has been working with one of the most sought out vineyards in Napa Valley. What an experience! We visited the winery, the vineyard and learnt directly from the wine connoisseur himself. Patrice toujours avec classe was a true inspiration. Thanks so much Monsieur, your hospitality was gracious!

From the extreme warmth of Napa Valley we made our way down to Los Angeles via the Pacific Coast Highway and met with professional dancer Christina De la Cruz. Christina, another awesome Canadian talent, specializes in hip hop dance and got most of her fundamental training from a community centre in an immigrant neighbourhood in Toronto. And guess what she’s killing it, having danced for big international artists such as Cardi B, Drake, Camila Cabello, Janelle Monae, Sean Paul, Kiesza and Zoe Kravitz. For those of you who didn’t know, I’m big on hiphop so I was really looking forward to meeting her. The energy she had was contagious and to see her dance in person with her crew in person was awesome. It was a real pleasure to meet and photograph her.

Our two weeks of exploring California has unfortunately come to an end. What an amazing group of Canadians. Brendan, Patrice and Christina; thank you guys so much for your time and giving us a glimpse into your life. The team and I love what you guys are doing, we all left truly inspired. Can’t wait to see what else you guys have planned for the future.

As for my squad of producers and film crew - mad shout out for holding it down this entire time, you guys stepped up big! And a special shout out to the Air Canada family, thank you so much for letting me be part of this brilliant campaign, it was a blast! Can’t thank you guys enough. Really looking forward to doing another one!
